Dr. Josephine Yip is passionate about every aspect of dentistry, with a particular focus on children's dentistry and airway-centered orthodontics. She firmly believes in treating each patient as an individual and avoids a one-size-fits-all approach, aiming to create positive dental experiences that are crucial for maintaining optimal oral health.
Dr. Yip genuinely enjoys engaging with local families in Rowlett and learning about them beyond their dental concerns. She finds it particularly rewarding to help both children and parents see that visiting the dentist can be a positive and stress-free experience.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Yip’s love for dentistry started when she volunteered in a global medical mission organization during her college years. She was astonished to see how dentistry could impact lives and felt fulfilled when building relationships with the people she served.
Dr. Yip was innately drawn to dentistry because it requires a combination of problem-solving and creative skill to navigate a wide variety of challenges. Even better, in pediatric dentistry, it allows her to be playful while setting kids on a path that will serve them throughout their lifetime.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Yip started as a dental assistant back in 2003 before deciding to pursue a career as a dentist. She eventually graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas and went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Case Western Reserve University.
Afterward, Dr. Yip moved back to Dallas to be with family. As she began to practice, she discovered her passion for treating children, leading her to spend the last decade focusing on taking care of children and teens.
Today, she is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Orthodontic Society. With thousands of educational training hours in all aspects of clinical dentistry and airway-centric orthodontics under her belt, she is able to understand all the developmental stages of children and provide an integrated approach to suit their specific needs.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Yip has two energetic boys who keep her on her toes! The family loves traveling and hiking together, though the boys wouldn’t mind spending the entire day playing video games. They’re currently on a quest to collect Junior Ranger badges from different national parks.
Dr. Yip considers herself an adventurous soul, always open to new experiences such as scuba diving or flying a plane. She delights in exploring different cuisines, with a particular love for seafood. In her quieter moments, she enjoys playing the violin, capturing the night sky with photography, and hiking—nothing refreshes her like a serene walk through the woods.
