What Happens During a Root Canal?
A dental dam is used to isolate the tooth, minimizing the potential of any moisture reaching the surgical area. After administering local anesthesia to numb the appropriate areas of the mouth, we will use specialized instruments to make a small opening at the top of the crown. This will allow for greater access to the inner layers of the tooth.
Clearing away decayed or damaged areas, including the chambers and canals, we will remove the infected pulp before sanitizing the tooth to get rid of any existing debris. We’ll then fill it with a biocompatible substance before sealing the tooth off from future reinfection.
A few weeks later, a customized dental crown will be secured over the top of the tooth so that it can properly heal and strengthen over time.
